FEATURES
Domaine de Vaccelli, located in Corsica, has a rich history dating back to 1962 when the Courrèges family settled on the granite hillsides of Cognocoli-Monticchi. The estate, now 20 hectares, practices organic viticulture since 2008, with all vineyard work done by hand. Winemaker Gérard Courrèges, who took over in 2000, focuses on native varieties like Vermentino and Sciaccarellu, utilizing native yeasts for vinification and aging in various vessels including stainless steel, barrique, and concrete eggs. The Sirocco cuvée is particularly notable as it was previously only produced in 2017 due to extremely low yields caused by the hot Sirocco wind. The 2024 vintage marks a rare return for this unique blend, bringing together various exceptional terroirs of the Domaine, predominantly Vermentino blended with indigenous Corsican white grape varieties.

Tasting Notes: The 2024 Sirocco is described as splendid and unique, with a clear and brilliant pale robe. The nose is elegant and expressive, offering intense aromas of white-fleshed fruits like Golden apple, juicy pear, and a hint of fresh quince. These fresh, ripe fruit aromas are quickly joined by airy notes of pollen, acacia or lavender honey, and delicate orchard flowers. The palate is ample and generous, with a round and supple texture, featuring white fruits and yellow peach. It strikes a sovereign balance between richness and chiseled acidity, with a mineral and saline imprint that enlivens the taste buds, along with Menton lemon and slightly candied citron.
Food Pairing: Young, this wine is excellent with a beautiful platter of seafood and crustaceans. After a few years of aging, it would pair wonderfully with langoustine or scallop risotto with a hint of saffron, oven-baked sea bass with pastis, fennel, and basil, or lobster linguine. It also pairs well with lean fish and mild, soft cheeses.
Event Suggestions: Given its collector status and unique character, the 2024 Sirocco is perfect for special celebrations, gourmet seafood dinners, or as a centerpiece for a sophisticated wine tasting. It's also an excellent choice for a gift to a discerning wine collector or for enjoying on a warm evening.
