FEATURES
The Clos des Fées Côtes du Roussillon Villages La Petite Sibérie 2011 is a legendary red wine from the Roussillon region, crafted by the renowned winemaker Hervé Bizeul. This cuvée derives its name, "Little Siberia," from its unique 2-hectare plot situated at 350 meters altitude, exposed to icy winds for over 200 days a year. The terroir, characterized by clay-limestone soil with schist and exceptional iron content, nurtures very old Grenache Noir vines, which are blended with Mourvèdre and Syrah. The 2011 vintage was rated 16.5/20 by Bettane et Desseauve, with a suggested drinking window of 2016 to 2023, indicating it is now in its prime or gracefully evolving.
This wine offers an enormous aromatic concentration of black fruits, such as blackberry and cassis, alongside notes of tapenade and licorice, with a refreshing touch of violet. Further complexity comes from hints of oak, vanilla, tobacco, leather, minerals, cocoa, and spices like pepper and star anise. On the palate, it is deep, dense, and thick, with velvety tannins and an exceptional freshness that carries through to a finish of spices, licorice, and black fruits. It is known for its impressive length and evolving character in the glass over several hours. The wine is aged on lees without sulfur until malolactic fermentation and bottled without filtration, contributing to its superb density and complexity.
Food pairing recommendations for this powerful red include classic French dishes like Lièvre à la Royale (Jugged Hare), lamb, beef, veal, or rich pasta dishes.
This wine is ideal for special occasion dinners, fine dining experiences, or as a centerpiece for a wine collector's tasting. Its significant aging potential, up to 30 years, also makes it a superb candidate for cellaring. 【A legendary Roussillon wine from a unique, wind-swept "Little Siberia" plot with very old Grenache Noir vines, known for its immense concentration and aging potential.】
