Didier Dagueneau is an iconic estate renowned for its singular, age-worthy Sauvignon Blancs. Didier Dagueneau himself was a pioneer, being one of the first in the Loire Valley to experiment with single-parcel wines, launching "En Chailloux" in 1982. Since 2008, Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau has masterfully continued his father's legacy, leading this exceptional estate with meticulous winemaking, including employing one full-time worker per hectare and hand-harvesting all grapes. The 2021 vintage was challenging due to severe frost, leading Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau to blend harvests into a single wine called "XXI" for some of his production. However, the 2021 vintage, as seen in "XXI," returned to a fresher balance with noble vegetal notes, a welcome change from the more solar 2020, and exhibits "extremely tasty fat" from careful wood aging. 【Pioneering single-parcel Sauvignon Blanc with meticulous winemaking and age-worthy potential, even in challenging vintages.】
This Sancerre offers a fresher balance with noble vegetal notes, a delicate texture, and beautiful bitters. Expect a dry, medium-bodied wine with a green and flinty style, showcasing fresh notes of grass, grapefruit, and eucalyptus, alongside good acidity and enormous length. While enjoyable in its youth, this Sauvignon Blanc will benefit from five to six years of aging to fully relax and develop.
It pairs wonderfully with meaty and oily fish. Consider dishes like grilled salmon, mackerel, or even richer white meats.
This Sancerre is perfect for a sophisticated dinner party or a special gathering where a high-quality, age-worthy Sauvignon Blanc is appreciated. It's a fantastic choice for those who enjoy exploring the nuanced expressions of terroir-driven white wines, either to enjoy now or to cellar for future delight.
