Rayas, Domaine Des Tours Vaucluse Merlot-syrah Reserve, 2011
The 2011 Rayas Domaine des Tours Vaucluse Merlot-Syrah Reserve is a powerful and structured red wine from the Rhône Valley, produced by Emmanuel Reynaud of the renowned Château Rayas. The 2011 vintage globally was quite mixed, with an unseasonably hot spring, cool summer, and warm autumn, which could lead to varied results depending on the region. However, Domaine des Tours is known for producing high-quality wines with depth, fruit, and exceptional balance, often released after several years of aging in their cellars. This particular bottling is a blend of Merlot and Syrah, with some sources also mentioning Grenache, Counoise, and Cinsault in the broader Vin de Pays de Vaucluse red blend. It is characterized by complex aromas of fruits and spices, with fine tannins. Tasting notes for similar vintages suggest ripe dark fruit like blackberry and black plum, with herbaceous notes of mint and eucalyptus, hints of black pepper, and integrated oak. It can also show notes of plum, raspberry, spice, old leather, and tobacco. 【Iconic producer's expression of Vaucluse terroir】. This wine is known for its complexity and aging potential. Serve at 16°C. This rich and intense red wine is an excellent choice for special occasions or a hearty meal. It pairs exceptionally well with lamb, braised dishes, red sauce pasta, gamey meats, and steak.
