🏰 The 1992 Château Mouton Rothschild, despite being from a challenging Bordeaux vintage, has fashioned a flattering, soft, opulently-styled wine. Robert Parker rated it 88 points, describing a medium-bodied wine with a healthy dark ruby/purple color and a big, fragrant nose of jammy cassis, smoky oak, and roasted herbs and nuts. It offers a sweet, expansive mid-palate and a lush, velvety-textured finish, characterized as an ostentatious, flashy Mouton for drinking over the next 10-12 years from its review date. The wine has a purple color, shading to orange at the rim, and an elegant nose with notes of caramel and tobacco, opening up to attractive humus aromas with airing. The tannic structure is close-knit and firm on the palate, with a highly elegant texture, offering a harmonious and pleasing overall impression with an agreeably long and structured finish. Some recent tasters in 2026 found it drinking exceptionally well, polished and smooth with great aromatics, while others noted incredibly sexy sweet red cherry fruit but an underwhelming palate with slightly green and coarse tannins. 【A surprisingly charming Mouton from a challenging vintage】. The label features artwork by Per Kirkeby.
🍴 This mature Pauillac is an excellent pairing for classic red meat dishes such as roasted lamb, beef Wellington, or prime rib. Its evolving tertiary notes of cedar, cigar-box, and earthy undertones would also complement game birds and rich mushroom dishes. Consider pairing it with a truffle-infused risotto or aged hard cheeses.
🥂 This wine is perfect for a significant anniversary, a milestone birthday, or a special gathering of wine connoisseurs. It offers a fascinating glimpse into how a First Growth performs in a less-heralded vintage. Given its age, careful handling is advised. Decanting for 30-60 minutes can help it open up and separate from any sediment. Serve at 16-18°C (60-64°F).
