FEATURES
The 2018 Didier Dagueneau Memento Mori marks a significant release, being the first-ever bottling of this cuvée, created by Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau as a heartfelt homage to his late father, Didier. This special parcel and barrel selection was historically destined for the esteemed 'Silex' cuvée, now classified as a Vin de France appellation, yet it embodies the meticulous viticultural and winemaking principles championed by Didier. The 2018 vintage itself was notably successful across Europe, characterised by a particularly hot summer.
This Sauvignon Blanc presents an intensely layered profile, initially reserved but opening beautifully after decanting to reveal ripe, exotic fruits, white currants, profound minerality, honey, and acacia blossoms. On the palate, it is taut, linear, and remarkably crisp, showcasing sensational acidity, tension, and density while remaining elegantly light. The finish is long and salty, with lingering notes of exotic fruits and salted lemon. Critics have lauded it as potentially the best Sauvignon Blanc, highlighting its great tension and minerality.
🍴 For food pairings, classic choices include Sole Meunière or Chicken Velouté with tarragon. However, in a nod to Didier Dagueneau's unconventional spirit, an Uni pasta could brilliantly echo its bright mineral notes. It also pairs exceptionally well with meaty and oily fish such as salmon, mackerel, or tuna.
🥂 The 2018 Memento Mori is a distinctive, date-specific bottle, making it an ideal choice for collectors and enthusiasts tracking specific producer-year combinations, or as a truly special gift. It's a great wine to enjoy now with decanting, with potential to age gracefully until 2035 and beyond.
