The 2008 Echo de Lynch-Bages marks a significant vintage as it was the first year the second wine of Château Lynch-Bages adopted this new identity, previously known as Château Haut-Bages Averous. This change aimed to better assert its lineage with the grand vin, sharing the same attentive care from vine to cellar. The 2008 vintage itself saw an early but irregular budbreak, followed by a cool and damp summer, but was ultimately saved by warm weather in September and October. The wine displays a dark ruby color and offers a sweet nose of red fruits, plums, and a touch of jam with creamy vanilla oak. It presents a rich berry character, with notes of strawberries, cherries, and raspberries. On the palate, it is full-bodied with fine tannins and a lovely fresh finish, showcasing a silky mouthfeel leading to a structured finish. Echo de Lynch-Bages is known for its roundness and suppleness, requiring less cellaring time than the grand vin, making it more approachable in its youth. It is characterized by soft tannins, a light and smooth oakiness, and a silky texture. 【The first vintage under the 'Echo de Lynch-Bages' name, offering an approachable expression of Pauillac's terroir】. Critics note its nice energy and acidity with excellent tannin structure, a very good blend of intensity, depth, and structure.
Food pairing suggestions: This Pauillac red blend (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc) is an excellent match for beef and venison. Its rich berry character also makes it suitable for roasted lamb or duck.
Event suggestions: The 2008 Echo de Lynch-Bages is perfect for a casual yet elegant dinner, a gathering with friends, or as an introduction to the Pauillac style without the extensive aging requirements of a grand cru. It's a wine that is "so yummy now" and doesn't require a long wait.
BACKGROUND
One of the few Bordeaux chateaux with three words in their name. Chateau Haut Bages Liberal came across its unusual moniker for very simple reasons. The property is situated on the hills of Bages, a tiny area between Pauillac and St. Julien .The 30 hectare vineyard of Chateau Haut Bages Liberal is located in several different sites in Pauillac, with their best terroir being situated on one of the better elevations in the Pauillac appellation. They have vines not far from Chateau Latour in St. Lambert, as well as parcels on the plateau of Bages and they also have vines planted close to Pichon Baron . The vines are planted to 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot . This shows a marked decrease in Cabernet Sauvignon and an increase in Merlot over the years. The Petit Verdot vines have been removed. The terroir consists of gravel on chalk, clay and limestone soils. There best vines are placed close to Chateau Latour.
