FEATURES
Didier Dagueneau's Pouilly Fumé Blanc Fumé 2007 hails from a legendary estate founded in 1982 by the iconic and often iconoclastic winemaker, Didier Dagueneau. He was renowned for his unique blend of modern winemaking techniques and traditional vineyard management, pioneering biodynamics in 1993, utilizing horses for tilling, and drastically reducing yields. Dagueneau also famously employed oak barrels to enhance lees contact. Tragically, Didier Dagueneau passed away in an ultralight plane crash in 2008, making the 2007 vintage one of the last he completed entirely on his own. His children, Louis-Benjamin and Charlotte, have since taken over, continuing his legacy, with Louis-Benjamin being named "Winemaker of the Year" by La Revue du Vin de France in 2016. The Blanc Fumé de Pouilly is considered the estate's "entry-level" cuvée, a blend from various vineyards designed to offer a direct and pure expression of Sauvignon Blanc. The 2007 vintage is celebrated as "wonderful wines that are drinking great now." 【Iconic winemaker's legacy in a benchmark vintage】
Tasting Notes: This wine displays a pale straw color. The nose offers pure aromas of lime, lemon, white flowers, brown spices, and distinct minerals. On the palate, it is suave and fine-grained, yet youthfully taut, showcasing precise citrus and orchard fruit flavors with impressive inner-mouth energy and a tactile structure. Expect a savory stoniness underlying broad flavors of guava, jackfruit, and grapefruit, along with a pronounced flinty minerality. It is crisp and fresh, with pronounced lemon and lime notes laced with thyme and floral hints, culminating in a lingering fleur de sel edge. The palate is powerful, complex, and boasts great finesse with an impressive length. Vivacity dominates, leading to a well-balanced, taut, and mouthwatering finish. Subtle bitter notes and smoky minerality contribute to its purity.
Food Pairing Suggestions: This versatile white wine pairs excellently with a range of dishes. Consider asparagus risotto (Risotto aux asperges), scallop carpaccio (Carpaccio de noix de Saint-Jacques), or cod en papillote cooked on the barbecue (Cabillaud en papillotes au barbecue). It is also a superb match for pork, shellfish, vegetarian dishes, spicy food, and goat's milk cheese. For lighter fare, it complements Japanese dishes or fresh oysters beautifully.
Event Suggestions: This wine is perfect for special dinners or any occasion that calls for an iconic Sauvignon Blanc with significant aging potential. It is an excellent choice for events celebrating fine white wines, particularly when paired with seafood or delicate culinary creations. While it possesses great aging potential, the 2007 vintage is drinking wonderfully now, especially if decanted to allow its full expression.
