FEATURES
Krug 2002, affectionately nicknamed “Ode to Nature” by the Maison's Tasting Committee, is a superb Champagne born from a clement and generous climate. This vintage, a blend of 40% Pinot Noir, 39% Chardonnay, and 21% Meunier, expresses a serene and generous year for wines, centered around fruit with beautiful structure, great intensity, and elegance. It was released after 11 years of aging on the lees and is considered one of the best of the Krug Brut vintage series.
Upon sight, it presents a lovely, bright golden color. The nose is charismatic and fresh, promising natural intensity and elegance with a strong presence of various fruits, orange aromas, notes of liquorice, and light chocolate biscuit. On the palate, this Champagne is astonishingly balanced and delicate, with striking fresh, tropical, wild, and crystallized fruits. It's described as a hymn to fruit – red, white, and citrus – with notes of blackcurrant, chocolate, candied orange peel, cocoa beans, honey, hints of smoke, and toast, all enhanced by a vibrant, persistent long finish. Critics note its full-bodied, powerful character, with a distinctly phenolic, super-fresh nose reflecting bread, yeast, pear, baked apple, spice, and citrus. The palate offers superb complexity, underpinned by a fine, dense mousse, and a gorgeously persistent finish.
Food pairings for Krug 2002 are diverse, including squash, duck breast with reduction, roasted butternut squash, kumquat chutney, or a lentil curry stew with orange zest. Desserts like orange tiramisu or cinnamon brioche with carrot, ginger, and lemon mousse also pair beautifully. Its complexity also makes it suitable for striped jack with Oscietra caviar, octopus with gochujang aioli, or scallops with squid ink nurungji.
This exceptional Champagne is perfect for grand celebrations, significant milestones, or as a luxurious gift for a discerning connoisseur. 【Nicknamed “Ode to Nature” for its superb balance and generosity】
