The 2009 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is described as pure magic, showcasing the special and age-worthy qualities of white wines from the Graves region of Bordeaux. This vintage reveals a medium gold color and a stunning array of caramelized lime, crushed stone, quince, honeysuckle, flowers, and beeswax. On the palate, it delivers full-bodied richness, a layered, opulent texture, bright acidity, and a gorgeous finish. It's a blend of 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Semillon. Critics have noted its fabulous, long, and super-intense character with dried pineapple and sliced apples, along with a dense and powerful profile, great backbone of acidity, and a long finish. The wine has an almost unbelievable ability to develop enormous complexity with decades of bottle age, while remaining fresh and lively. 【Flirting with perfection and capable of long aging】. It is drinking well now but has a long life ahead.
Food pairing suggestions: This elegant white Bordeaux would be an excellent match for rich seafood dishes like pan-seared scallops or lobster thermidor. It also pairs beautifully with roasted poultry, creamy risottos, or even delicate white meats. For a classic pairing, consider goat cheese or aged Comté.
Event suggestions: This wine is perfect for a celebratory dinner, a significant anniversary, or a sophisticated gathering where a truly exceptional white wine is desired. Its aging potential also makes it a fantastic addition to a serious wine collector's cellar.
BACKGROUND
Domaine de Chevalier, classified Grand Cru Classe de Graves, is one of the most important wine estates in Pessac Leognan. The estate has around 45 hectares (110 acres) under vine on gravel- and clay-rich soils, with most of that dedicated to the red grape varieties. While Cabernet makes up the bulk of plantings, there is also Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, as well as Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. Grapes are harvested by hand and vinified in lots to ensure the best possible wine – Domaine de Chevalier has a reputation for making good wines even in average vintages.
