FEATURES
Les Fiefs de Lagrange is the second wine of Château Lagrange, a Third Growth Saint-Julien estate in Bordeaux, owned by the Suntory group since 1983. The 2006 vintage, while sometimes given short shrift, is a classic Bordeaux blend, typically with Cabernet Sauvignon as its backbone. This wine is generally made from younger vines or parcels that didn't meet the quality standards for the Grand Vin, and it's aged with a maximum of one-fifth new oak, emphasizing primary fruit.
【A reliably good second wine from a prestigious Saint-Julien estate】, the 2006 Les Fiefs de Lagrange, at 18 years old, was starting to show a little bricking. The nose is deep and subtle, featuring Médocain overtones of graphite, blackcurrant, cedar, and forest floor, along with violet, untanned leather, and truffle nuances. The palate offers good acidity and plenty of Cabernet Sauvignon varietal character, though some critics note the tannin can be somewhat coarse and the aftertaste dry and unresolved, suggesting it may not miraculously improve with further cellaring. It presents a medium-bodied profile with a balance of elegance and richness, showcasing ripe blackcurrants and dark cherries, complemented by subtle notes of cedar and spice. Tannins are firm yet well-integrated, providing a structured backbone.
🍴 This red blend is a fantastic pairing for a variety of cuisine, including roasted or grilled red meats, beef, lamb, and game dishes.
🥂 Ideal for a casual dinner with friends, a family gathering, or as an approachable introduction to mature Bordeaux wines. It's also suitable for a wine tasting focused on second wines or Bordeaux vintages.
