FEATURES
The 1971 Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque Champagne is a mature vintage, showcasing the classic character of aged Champagne. This prestige cuvée, recognizable by its iconic Emile Gallé-designed bottle adorned with Japanese white anemones, is only produced in exceptional vintage years. The 1971 vintage for Champagne was reasonably good, despite a chilly, dry winter and some spring frosts. Expect a complex bouquet of baked apple, dried citrus, brioche, hazelnut, and gentle spice. The palate is broad and evolved, with a fine mousse, fresh acidity, and a long, savory finish. 【Iconic Art Nouveau bottle design】. Serving Advice for this mature vintage: Given its age, this Champagne should be handled with care. The cork may be fragile, so a two-pronged cork puller is recommended. Serve well-chilled, between 8-10°C (46-50°F), but allow it to warm slightly in the glass to reveal its full aromatic complexity. Decanting is generally not recommended for aged Champagne as it can dissipate the delicate mousse and aromas too quickly; however, if there's significant sediment, a very gentle decant just before serving might be considered, but it's rare for Champagne. Use tulip-shaped Champagne glasses or white wine glasses to allow the aromas to develop. This elegant and refined Champagne is perfectly suited for very special occasions, such as significant anniversaries or intimate celebrations where its rarity and history can be appreciated. It pairs beautifully with refined seafood dishes like lobster, sea bass, turbot, and prawns, as well as white peaches, delicate cheeses, and dishes that allow its freshness to shine. Food pairing suggestions: Lobster thermidor, pan-seared scallops with a light cream sauce, aged Comté cheese, or even a delicate white peach tart.
BACKGROUND
The vineyards of Perrier-Jouët encompass 65 hectares (161 acres), with each plot being picked and vinified separately before being blended into its eventual cuvée. The blend is chosen by current cellar master, Herve Deschamps, who is just the seventh cellar master in the house's history. Chardonnay is used above Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier and gives a house style that is fruit-driven, floral and elegant. The wines are then aged for a minimum of three years underground in Perrier-Jouët's chalk cellars before release.
