FEATURES
Corton-Charlemagne is a prestigious white wine Grand Cru appellation in Burgundy, situated on three sides of a hill north of Beaune, with a history dating back to Charlemagne. The 2019 vintage is characterized by a significant personality, offering lush and sometimes intensely ripe fruit. Despite this ripeness, the quintessential Corton-Charlemagne character—marked by saline, racy, and stony notes—shines through in many wines. Alcohol levels for this vintage typically ranged around 14% ABV, though variations between 13% and 14.5% were observed. Historically, after the phylloxera epidemic, the Latour family made the pivotal decision to replant their dead Aligoté and Pinot Noir vines with Chardonnay, thereby establishing one of Burgundy's most celebrated white wines. The 2019 harvest for whites was relatively small. This vintage of Corton-Charlemagne is considered highly promising, showcasing a fleshy core of fruit balanced by good underlying freshness.
This Grand Cru white Burgundy is concentrated and powerful, presenting an extremely rich nose with almond paste, acacia aromas, and subtle grilled notes. The palate is ample and round, revealing citrus, green apple, and almond notes with delicate woody hints. It is a wine full of grace, culminating in a finish of wonderful minerality and freshness. Tasting notes also highlight ripe lemon, yellow apple, hints of pear, crushed stone, orchard blossom, and peach. It is mineral-driven and energetic, with minimal oak influence, yet boasts great intensity and a lovely finish. Other descriptors include butter, oak, butterscotch, honey, minerals, saline, baked apple, brioche, hazelnut, marzipan, citrus, orange rind, cheese, cream, and tropical fruit. Some early assessments suggest a "slightly austere" character due to its staggering concentration, which points to exceptional aging potential. It also exhibits intense spice, a bold structure, and steeliness. 【Grand Cru status from a historic appellation, known for its powerful concentration and exceptional aging potential】
🍴 This exceptional wine is a superb companion to refined cuisine, pairing beautifully with shellfish, lobster, foie gras, and various fish dishes. It also complements roasted poultry with morel cream sauce, veal, rich mushroom dishes, and mature cheeses like Comté and Beaufort. Chicken and turkey are also good pairings.
🥂 With a cellaring potential of 10-15 years, this wine is drinkable now but is expected to be at its best from 2024 onwards. It is still young and will greatly benefit from further aging, developing greater depth, complexity, and aromatic nuances over 15-25 years.
