FEATURES
The 2022 Clement Lavallee Saint Bris Les Copains d'Abord (Blanc) hails from a vintage described as "a real breath of fresh air" after a challenging 2021. The harvest concluded in the third week of September with near-normal yields, and the wines are noted for expressing ripe fruit, pear, and peach notes while maintaining freshness, generosity, and good balance. May 2022 saw very hot conditions ideal for flowering, followed by a somewhat chaotic June with storms, though Burgundy largely escaped severe issues. Saint-Bris is unique in Burgundy as the only appellation exclusively planted to Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris. Clément Lavallée's vines, aged 30-35 years, are west-facing and thrive on limestone soils. The winemaking is entirely organic and environmentally friendly, avoiding pesticides and synthetic products. This is a low-intervention wine, hand-harvested and gently pressed, undergoing indigenous yeast fermentation and natural malolactic in barrel, with aging in both oak and stainless steel, unfined and unfiltered.
This wine enchants with its lightness and aromatic finesse, offering fresh scents of grapefruit, tangerine, and peach, complemented by hints of blackcurrant and lychee. Floral notes intertwine with a saline and mineral touch, creating a crisp and invigorating profile. On the palate, it is rich and lively, with yellow-fleshed fruit flavors like pineapple, balanced by a characteristic and refreshing minerality. It presents an overt nose, a bone-dry yet rich white, with orange peel, cream, citrus, and melon notes, leading to a sublime creamy finish while retaining a hallmark acid spine. It can be enjoyed now and kept for 3 to 4 years.
🍴 Ideal as an aperitif, this wine perfectly complements all types of fish and poultry, exotic cuisine, and mixed salads. It's also an excellent match for sushi, oily fish, white meats, oysters, snails in garlic butter, fresh goat cheese, and fried smelts with lemon.
🥂 The name "Les Copains d'Abord" (Friends First) perfectly encapsulates this wine's spirit, making it ideal for convivial gatherings with friends, casual aperitifs, and relaxed meals. Its versatility with food ensures it's suitable for a wide array of social occasions, from a laid-back brunch to a seafood feast. 【 Burgundy's unique Sauvignon Blanc, crafted organically, offering a rich, creamy profile with a hallmark acid spine, challenging perceptions of the varietal. 】
