FEATURES
The 2016 Laurent Ponsot Bourgogne Cuvée des Peupliers comes from Laurent Ponsot's eponymous operation, launched in 2017 after his departure from Domaine Ponsot. The vineyard sources for this bottling are primarily in the Côte de Beaune, with a small parcel in Chambolle, and in 2016, additional small parcels were incorporated due to frost-reduced volumes. The 2016 vintage in Burgundy is recognized as an outstanding year, yielding powerful and vibrant wines, with the reds expected to age superbly.
【Outstanding vintage, Chambolle personality】
This wine offers a very red fruity and sappy nose of cherries, strawberries, woodsmoke, a complex base of soil, and a hint of Chambolle mustard seed. On the palate, it is deep, full-bodied, and succulent, with good core, fine focus and grip, and a long, tangy finish. Community reviews highlight a dark ruby color, super cherry/black cherry fruits, nice spice with tea and cola, great acidity, a lush mouthfeel, and a medium body and finish. It's described as a delightfully pretty, red-fruited Burgundy, fleshy yet not heavy, with a juicy, moreish personality, hints of forest floor, and a silky texture.
🍴 Food pairing suggestions include veal, beef, poultry, and game (deer, venison). It's also recommended as an aperitif, accompanied by charcuterie and cheese platters, gourmet salads, or warm tartines.
🥂 This wine is in excellent condition at ten years old (as of August 2026) and still tastes young, making it superb for current enjoyment while also holding further aging potential. It's ideal for a sophisticated dinner, a gathering of wine enthusiasts, or a special occasion where a well-aged, expressive Bourgogne Rouge is desired.
