FEATURES
The 2015 El Nido is a powerful, ripe, and concentrated red blend from Jumilla, Spain, a collaboration between the Gil family and Australian winemaker Chris Ringland. Comprising 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Monastrell, it spent 23 months in French and American oak barrels. Despite its 16% alcohol, it maintains remarkable balance and is considered by some critics to be the 【finest vintage of El Nido to date, consistently rated in the high 90s】. Approximately 5,000 bottles are produced annually.
**Tasting Notes:** This wine presents a deep, bright-rimmed purple hue. The complex bouquet offers candied black/blue fruit, vanilla, Moroccan spice, cola, violet, and dark chocolate notes. On the palate, it is sweet and deeply concentrated, with hefty, mineral-laced blackberry, cherry compote, fruitcake, and vanilla flavors. It firms up slowly on a strikingly long, chewy, dark fruit-dominated finish framed by dusty, building tannins. Other notes include chocolate-covered cherries, saddle leather, spice, and jammy dark cherries and black raspberries.
**Food Pairing:** Given its powerful and concentrated nature, the 2015 El Nido demands equally robust food. It pairs exceptionally well with grilled red meats like prime rib or venison, hearty stews, and strong, aged cheeses. While some suggest it's great on its own, it can certainly stand up to rich, flavourful dishes.
**Event Suggestions:** This wine benefits from a few years in the bottle and is recommended for drinking between 2023 and 2033. It's an excellent choice for a celebratory dinner, a special occasion where a bold statement wine is desired, or for cellaring to enjoy its evolution over the next decade. Decanting is highly recommended to allow its complex aromas and flavours to fully express themselves.
