FEATURES
The St. Michael-Eppan Appius 2011 is an extraordinary white cuvée, noted for its elegance and complex minerality. This vintage, impacted by a strong hail storm in late August, led to an early harvest and a unique blend without Pinot Blanc, featuring Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris. Critics highlight its Sauvignon Blanc-driven character, revealing notes of saffron, golden mature apples, pineapple, and candied ginger, alongside intense minerality and a subtle tannic edge.
Tasting notes describe a straw yellow color with greenish reflections, offering complex aromas of pineapple, papaya, and passion fruit. The palate is mineral, complex, and boasts an immensely long finish. Further nuances include vanilla, oak, butter, apple, pear, peach, honey, smoke, cream, banana, oil, lemon, citrus, brioche, toast, almond, and various floral and vegetal hints.
Food pairing suggestions are extensive, making it an excellent accompaniment to gourmet cuisine. It harmonizes beautifully with oysters, crustaceans, all types of fish, mushroom dishes, truffle specialties, and Asian-inspired cuisine. It also pairs well with spicy dishes, particularly rabbit, guinea fowl, or wild fowl, and a range of mature hard or soft cheeses, pasta, lean fish, and cured meats.
This wine is perfectly suited for sophisticated dinners, special celebrations, or any refined culinary experience. Its complexity and aging potential also make it an ideal candidate for cellaring to enjoy its evolving flavors over many years. 【Elegance fusing with complexity of ripe fruit and minerality, a "super cuvée" personally selected by cellar master Hans Terzer.】
