FEATURES
The 2008 Cordero di Montezemolo Barolo Monfalletto is a testament to quality, emerging as a "great bottle" from what was generally considered a challenging and inconsistent vintage. The Cordero di Montezemolo family, with 19 generations of ownership in La Morra, cultivates 100% Nebbiolo from their historic Monfalletto Estate vineyards, known for their ideal sun exposure and diverse soils.
This Barolo displays an intense garnet color. Upon opening, it reveals a classic nose of tar and roses with a prominent floral quality, evolving to perfectly blended floral and spicy notes of licorice, cherries in liqueur, cacao, and fresh raspberries. The palate is rich, full-bodied, and elegant. Initially, tannins and acidity are assertive but soften over time, allowing sweet cherry fruit and a note of bitter chocolate to emerge. Often described as "feminine," it maintains youth and liveliness through a long, bright finish. Expect notes of leather, earthy tar, red and black fruits, oak, tobacco, vanilla, mint, and rose petal.
Food pairing suggestions: This aristocratic wine is an ideal match for game, such as jugged hare, braised beef, chamois, roe buck saddle, wild boar, venison, and pigeon. It is superb with dishes garnished with white truffles from Alba, like cardoon flan with fonduta and duck ravioli. It also pairs wonderfully with classic Italian dishes like spaghetti and pork sausage with sharp pecorino, or other pasta and beef/lamb dishes.
Event suggestions: With an anticipated maturity from 2015-2023 and a best drinking window extending to 2030, this Barolo is perfect for a special occasion, a holiday treat, or a sophisticated dinner. It promises to develop beautifully in the bottle. 【An aristocratic wine from a historic family estate, showing remarkable elegance and aging potential even in a challenging vintage】.
