FEATURES
The 2022 vintage in Sonoma presented challenges with heat, but Aubert managed to produce brilliant wines, with harvest starting mid-August, earlier than 2021. Mark Aubert emphasized "Location, location, location" as key, and the light-hued soil of CIX Estate seems to keep the vineyard cooler, contributing to its success in this warm vintage. The Pinot Noir grapes were fully destemmed, and the wines are expected to drink well with minimal cellaring.
Robert Parker rated it 97 points, describing complex, mouthwatering waves of black cherries, accented by notes of roses and black tea. It's medium to full-bodied, concentrated, silky, with awesome length and tremendous intensity without excess weight. Hints of tobacco, tea leaves, and sous-bois add complexity to the lingering finish. James Suckling gave it 99 points, noting aromas of blackberries, black cherries, lavender, lemon peel, and dark tobacco, with hints of oyster shells, dried seaweed, and iodine. He found it full yet nicely hemmed with ripe tuna belly and seaweed character, decadent with notes of umami. Vinous rated it 96 points, calling it fabulous, dark, vibrant, and vertical in feel, offering a compelling mix of dark-toned fruit, menthol, cloves, licorice, and incense. It's dynamic and bursting with flavor, the most potent and virile wine in the range, and the last to be picked. Wine Spectator scored it 93 points, noting a rich and well-filled-in version for the vintage, offering steeped black cherry and blackberry fruit laced with hints of menthol, chaparral, and singed vanilla.
Food pairing suggestions include duck, goose, and game birds. Some user reviews also suggest pairing with marinated salmon filet.
This is an exceptional wine perfect for any occasion. It's fascinating to drink now but will benefit from 3-4 years to mellow slightly.
