FEATURES
The 2019 Jean Pierre Guyon Aux Brulees Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru comes from a highly acclaimed Burgundy producer, Domaine Jean-Pierre Guyon, led by its fourth-generation owner. The estate has been organically farmed since 2000 and received EU organic certification in 2012. They employ unique viticulture techniques like "cloud sorting" (tri en nuage), meticulously cutting grapes into small berries while retaining tiny pedicels, aiming for finer tannins and more elegant floral and fruit aromas. The Les Brûlées vineyard, a sun-drenched, concave slope in Vosne-Romanée, is renowned for its warm fruit and exotic spice notes, balanced by a cool, slate-like minerality from its poor chalky-limestone soils. The 2019 vintage of Les Brûlées has garnered exceptional praise, with Jasper Morris awarding it a rare 5-star rating for five consecutive vintages (2019-2023), elevating its status to rival top Grand Crus. The average vine age in this plot is 70 years.
This red wine displays a brilliant, full purple-red color. The nose is expressive with Vosne spice, vivid red cherry, cotton candy, mocha, hoisin, blue fruits, and rose notes. It also presents a fruit-laden perfume of cherries, raspberry, blackberry, mineral notes of stone and smoke, and wooded aromatics of toast and vanilla. On the palate, it is elegant, rounded, balanced, and complex with super refined tannins. It is concentrated, full-bodied, fleshy, precise, and boasts astonishing persistence. Some notes mention marinated sweet dried plum and sweet spices. It achieves a terrific balance between power and elegance, described as an "iron fist in a velvet glove." The finish is very long and lingering.
Suggested food pairings include duck, goose, and game birds. Its complexity and elegance would also suit roasted meats, mushroom dishes, or fine cheeses.
This is a highly sought-after wine for collectors due to its rarity (only about 0.15 hectares of Les Brûlées) and exceptional critical acclaim. It requires time to evolve, recommended to rest for 7-10 years, with a drinking window suggested from 2027-2046. It is ideal for special celebrations or as a prized addition to a serious cellar.
