FEATURES
🏰 The 1991 Burgundy vintage was initially overlooked, overshadowed by the glorious 1990s, but it has since proven to be a very good vintage, especially for reds. Despite a difficult growing season marked by severe April frosts, a cold snap in May, and localized hail, meticulous growers produced fine reds. The summer was hot and dry, with good weather continuing through most of the harvest. The reds from this year developed into firm favorites, displaying ripeness, good vineyard definition, and an admirable sense of balance and precision. Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru was specifically listed among the best red wines of this vintage. 【A highly regarded Grand Cru from a surprisingly strong red Burgundy vintage】. 🍴 While specific tasting notes for Georges Mugneret's 1991 Ruchottes-Chambertin are rare, general descriptions for 1991 red Burgundies suggest an understated nose with hints of coal-type mineral and faint baked red fruit, initially tight but gaining width with air. The palate is balanced with decent acidity and faint, fine tannins. Some wines from this vintage have developed into a wonderfully soft, truffly, eventually mocha affair, with soil and leaf notes, offering sweetness, some fat, and a soft texture. The best of these wines are rich and vibrant, with some still youthful and drinking beautifully now, potentially offering pleasure for another 5-10 years. 🥂 For a wine of this venerable age, careful preparation is paramount. The cork may be fragile, so consider using a two-pronged cork puller or a Durand. Decant gently for 30-60 minutes to allow the wine to awaken and separate from any sediment, but avoid over-decanting, which can diminish delicate older aromas. Serve at a cool cellar temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F). This Grand Cru is perfect for a truly special occasion, a significant anniversary, or a contemplative tasting among serious collectors. Pair it with roasted game, dishes featuring truffles, or aged, complex cheeses.
