FEATURES
Domaine de la Vougeraie is renowned for its commitment to biodynamic principles in viticulture. The 2023 vintage in Burgundy saw red grape harvesting in the Côte de Nuits commence around September 16th, with yields averaging 39 hl/ha, considered generous but not excessive. Grapes were exceptionally healthy, requiring minimal sorting, and alcohols remained moderate without chaptalization. Notably, some whole clusters were used in the Musigny, and new oak usage for reds was reduced to 20%. The 2023 Domaine de la Vougeraie Musigny Grand Cru has already garnered high praise, with Wine Spectator awarding 97 points and James Suckling identifying it as one of the top 5 Chambolle-Musigny wines. A mere 900 bottles of this vintage were produced. The 2023 vintage is characterized as "creamy and quite spicy, open and convivial," with a pleasing roundness and an earlier approachability.
The nose of this Musigny Grand Cru reveals minerals, earth, dark red and black fruit, forest floor, truffles, crushed stones, oyster shells, red mahogany, spices, and dried rose petals. The palate is taut and energetic, supported by firmly framed tannins and bright acidity, contributing tension and persistence. It boasts a luscious, silken mouthfeel and an endless, luxurious finish. Other tasting notes include explosive ripe red fruits, menthol, black tea, elegant and attractive qualities, with refined tannins and layered red fruits. It also presents beautiful balance, pure excellence with earthy notes of cherry, raspberry, red fruit, and soft leather. Floral notes of rose petals, jasmine, and violets lead to a silky palate exuding sweet spices, earth, and cedar.
