FEATURES
The 2018 Vincent Dancer Chassagne Montrachet Blanc La Romanee 1er Cru comes from a Burgundy vintage that was largely very good for whites, notable for its hot and dry growing season, the warmest since 2003. Despite the heat, ample winter rainfall helped the vines cope, leading to a large Chardonnay harvest. The whites from 2018 are often described as rich and surprisingly fresh, with many retaining a "sun-ripened" taste profile while maintaining freshness, offering complexity and good aging potential. This particular 1er Cru, 'La Romanée', is considered the richest of Vincent Dancer's cuvées, sourced from steep slopes with limestone soils. Vincent Dancer is also recognized as the first producer in Chassagne-Montrachet to become certified organic, a testament to his commitment to terroir expression. The 2018 La Romanée from Dancer has been lauded as superb, often reaching Grand Cru quality.
Tasting notes reveal aromas of pear, white currant, fresh melon, and peach. It is full-bodied, satiny, and layered on the palate, with a textural attack that leads to a deep and concentrated mid-palate underpinned by racy acids, culminating in a long and chalky finish. Some describe a discreet start that beautifully develops with notes of sandalwood, lime blossom, and excellent acidity. The wine is unctuous, loaded with flavors of stone fruit, citrus, and crushed rocks. Critics have also noted ripe stone fruit, white flowers, toasted hazelnut, and an attractive reduction, contributing to its incredible vibrancy and elegantly textured, long mineral finish.
Food Pairing: This rich and complex white Burgundy is an excellent partner for luxurious seafood such as grilled lobster, seared scallops, or rich fish dishes like turbot with a cream sauce. It also pairs beautifully with roasted poultry, particularly chicken or capon, and mature, firm cheeses.
