FEATURES
The 2017 Domaine Sylvain Cathiard Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts is an emblematic cuvée, widely regarded as a great success. Despite a late malolactic fermentation, which made it one of the more primary wines in the cellar at the time of tasting, its immense potential was undeniable. This vintage showcases remarkable youthfulness, freshness, and balance, a hallmark of Cathiard's dedication to terroir and impeccable vineyard practices. The wine was matured in 62% new oak. 【Highly sought-after due to critical acclaim and rarity】.
Tasting Notes: This wine unfurls with aromas of cherries, licorice, spices, dark berries, and grilled game, elegantly framed by new oak. On the palate, it is full-bodied, deep, and fleshy, supported by a broad-shouldered chassis of velvety, structuring tannins and considerable concentration, leading to a long, expansive finish. Decanter described it as having a wealth of vibrant, heady fruit, more red than black, with excellent fresh acidity and a very complete profile. Vinous noted a very pure, detailed bouquet of precise blackberry, briar, and crushed stone aromas, with a medium-bodied palate of sappy red and black fruit, displaying more grip and backbone.
Food Pairing: Given its richness and complexity, this Vosne-Romanée would pair beautifully with refined dishes such as roasted game birds (e.g., duck, pheasant), beef Wellington, or mushroom-based dishes like truffle risotto. For a more Eastern pairing, consider Peking duck or a rich, slow-cooked Cantonese beef brisket.
Event Suggestions: This wine is ideal for a special occasion dinner, a sophisticated wine tasting, or as a centerpiece for a celebratory meal. Its depth and aging potential also make it a superb choice for a significant anniversary or milestone event.
