FEATURES
The 2002 vintage was another successful year for Burgundy, following a series of strong vintages. A cool winter and spring led to uneven flowering and reduced yields, while a cool and grey summer eventually gave way to warm conditions in July and August. Domaine Georges Roumier is currently managed by Christophe Roumier, the talented third-generation winemaker, and Clos de la Bussière remains a cherished monopole of the domaine. This 2002 vintage reveals deep layers of dark cherry fruit, beautifully complemented by earthy nuances and a hint of spice. The nose is often musky, with prominent coffee notes. On the palate, it offers a silky entry, followed by a somewhat tight mid-palate with firm acidity. Flavors of minerals and bitter chocolate build impressively, leading to a strong, firmly tannic finish with a resiny nuance. Some tasters also find dark fruits, a whiff of iron, black earth, and a hint of leather, noting its rich, powerful, and surprisingly youthful character for its age. Expect mature red and dark cherry, dried rose, forest floor, tea leaf, truffle, and savory spice, with a medium to full-bodied structure, fresh acidity, and resolved, fine-grained tannins. 🍴 This Pinot Noir pairs wonderfully with classic dishes such as roast duck, goose, and various game birds. 🥂 A serious and cellar-worthy wine, the 2002 Clos de la Bussière holds particular appeal for collectors and enthusiasts of aged wines. Its remarkable youthfulness for its age suggests further evolution in the cellar, making it perfect for a special occasion that calls for a wine with proven aging potential. 【A serious, cellar-worthy monopole Premier Cru wine from a successful Burgundy vintage】.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Georges Roumier is a wine producer based in the Côte de Nuits village of Chambolle-Musigny that produces some of the most expensive, best-rated and most popular wines in Burgundy. The winery did not purchase the land directly, but used the French sharecropper/lease system, in which individuals farmed the land for the owner in exchange for a certain percentage of agricultural products. Now, Christophe has taken over the work of the winery and has become the owner of the winery. The current winemaker of the village. He pays close attention to terroir, so little new oak is used, and fermentation temperatures are kept low to allow the wine’s delicious flavors and aromas to shine through.
