FEATURES
The 2019 Philippe Livera Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from Domaine des Tilleuls, a family estate established in 1920 and now managed by Damien Livera. The vineyards are sustainably farmed, primarily with Pinot Noir vines covered in grass, and the wines undergo long fermentation followed by 11 to 18 months of aging in oak barrels. This Grand Cru plot, located between Clos-de-Bèze and Chapelle-Chambertin, is renowned for producing some of the suavest wines in Chambertin. Philippe Livera owns a mere 3,000 square meters of this Grand Cru, maturing the wine in 80% new oak and producing a highly limited quantity of only 1,000 bottles.
Expect a clean aroma of red currant, dried cranberry, dried red cherry, violet, raspberry, mushroom, toast, and fresh cream. This deep ruby wine is complex, offering a spectrum of red berries, minerality, leafiness, artichoke-like aromas, and vanilla. It boasts high acidity and smooth tannins, culminating in a long finish. Tasting notes also highlight black cherry and kirsch, a powerful structure, wood in fine balance, and a very long aftertaste. Overall, it is described as a red fruit-driven, food-friendly, and smooth wine.
🍴 Food Pairing: This Grand Cru is a superb match for savory foods such as rich meats and strong vegetables, or antipasto like pâté. It particularly excels with duck, goose, and other game birds. Traditional pairings include Sanglier à la broche (spit-roasted wild boar), Saint Nectaire cheese, and Lapin à la moutarde (rabbit with mustard).
🥂 Fit for Event: A truly high-quality Grand Cru, this wine is ideal for special occasions, fine dining experiences, or for cellaring to allow further development and complexity. While it can be enjoyed for its festive fruitiness now, its ultimate expression will be revealed with additional time in the cellar. 【Rarity: only 1,000 bottles produced from a tiny Grand Cru plot】
