The 2016 Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg Vosne-Romanée is a 【superb Vosne-Romanée Village with significant aging potential】. This vintage was initially described as "firm and quite closed at the moment" from barrel samples in 2018, possessing density but needing time to reveal its full charm. It has since "closed down" further, indicating it's a vintage that benefits from patience. The domaine itself is renowned for its precision and terroir expression.
In terms of tasting notes, expect a mid-cherry color with peppery red fruit on the nose. The palate is firm and gripping, dry and concentrated, with a tight-knit core and fine-grained yet firm tannins. Further descriptions include a lovely bouquet of raspberries, cherries, dark chocolate, grilled game, and spicy new wood. Vinous noted penetrating aromas of black fruits, flowers, and spices, leading to a dense and juicy palate with minerality and reserve, finishing with serious dusty tannins. The winery's general notes for Vosne-Romanée highlight an attractive deep red color, with blackberry and bilberry notes laced with coffee, and a rich, ample mouth reminiscent of cherry, strawberry, and undergrowth, culminating in an outstanding aromatic aftertaste. Community tasters have found it "dark-fruited yet graceful, with notes of plum, gentle spice and classic Vosne sensuality".
🍴 This classic red Burgundy is an excellent match for duck, goose, and other game birds. The producer also suggests grilled or roasted red meats, especially when accompanied by salted new potatoes.
🥂 The 2016 Vosne-Romanée is a wine for patient connoisseurs, suitable for special dinners where it can be decanted to allow its complex layers to unfold. It has a drinking window from 2021 to 2026, but can be kept for a maximum of ten years from its vintage.
