FEATURES
The 2024 Domaine Zind Humbrecht Alsace Riesling Roche Calcaire is a testament to the unique limestone (Calcaire) soils of Alsace, particularly around the village of Gueberschwihr, where many of the vineyards were planted by the Humbrecht family in the 1960s and 70s. These rich, deep limestone soils contribute to a late ripening cycle, yielding broad wines with firm acidity. The 2024 vintage, despite variable ripening patterns, resulted in a resilient, finely chiselled, and very dry wine, with a sweetness index of 1 (technically dry). VinousMedia.com has already awarded this vintage 93 points. 【Certified Organic and Biodynamic with an unbroken winemaking lineage since 1620】
This Riesling presents a taut and energetic presence, with bright citrus skin nuances, subtle floral notes, and a firm foundation of wet stone essence. Expect vibrant aromas and flavors of peaches, apricots, and white fruit, alongside floral and citrus blossom notes, potentially evolving to show slate, earth, or even kerosene notes with age. Community reviews highlight a very minerally nose with fresh fruit aromas of peach and apricot, lemon and lime juice on the palate, and a sharp, tart, acidic finish. When young, these limestone-grown wines often display a distinct sense of austerity, underpinned by energetic acidity, and are recommended for decanting in their early years.
🍴 Food pairings are versatile, making it ideal with sautéed or roasted fish, scallops, and lobster. It also harmonizes well with pork, vegetarian dishes, rich fish like salmon or tuna, spicy food, and cured meats.
🥂 With a peak drinking window from 2026–2039, this wine offers excellent aging potential, making it suitable for both immediate enjoyment (with decanting) and long-term cellaring. It's a superb choice for those who appreciate terroir-driven white wines and a perfect accompaniment to a sophisticated seafood dinner or a diverse culinary experience.
