The 2023 Henri Germain Meursault Charmes 1er Cru comes from an excellent, though slightly under-the-radar, Meursault-based producer known for making "old-fashioned in the best sense" wines that are in a real sweet spot for contemporary palates. This vintage is highly anticipated and looks set to be brilliant. Neal Martin rated it 94-96 points, describing a complex and sensual bouquet with touches of orange blossom, quince, hazelnut, and almond. The palate is wonderful, delivering the expected weight and depth from this vineyard, being a little spicier than its peers with a persistent finish. Other notes include crab apples, mineral, slight flint, hazelnut, and lemon curd, with a long, expansive, layered, and medium to full-bodied profile, showing tension, grace, verve, and poise.
