FEATURES
The 2016 Jean-Claude Bachelet Les Blanchots Dessous Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru comes from a challenging yet ultimately rewarding vintage. Despite severe frost that led to a 75% crop loss for Bachelet, the smaller yield allowed for excellent ripening into September, resulting in superb white wines. The Bachelet brothers maintained their biodynamic practices, contributing to the wine's precision and terroir expression. The vines, planted in 1927 in a special site just below Le Montrachet, yield a wine often considered "Grand Cru in all but name."
Expect a complex nose with lemon, white peach, orchard fruit, white flowers, and flinty mineral notes, often intertwined with struck-match notes and toasty oak. The palate is medium to full-bodied, characterized by fresh, structured acidity and textural depth, leading to a focused, mineral finish. It's a powerful wine with wonderful, layered complexity and an almost endless, chewy finish. While some critics noted it might lack the complexity of other vintages, its balance, fine acidity, and minerality are consistently praised. Further tasting notes include butter, vanilla, stone fruit, apple, pear, and citrus. 【Grand Cru quality from a special site just below Le Montrachet, despite a challenging vintage】.
