FEATURES
The Mongeard-Mugneret domain, with its heart in Vosne Romanée, manages a significant number of vineyards across the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. Their Echezeaux Grand Cru is a truly prestigious wine, crafted from Pinot Noir vines sustainably grown in deep, pebble-rich, clay-limestone soil. These venerable vines, between 45 and 70 years old, are meticulously tended by hand. The decision to destem the grapes is made based on the quality of each vintage, and the wine undergoes maturation in oak casks.
Tasting Notes: This wine displays a deep color flecked with crimson and violet. It offers a complex aromatic bouquet, featuring notes of red and black fruits, cherry, white pepper, leather, spices, and plum. The palate is subtle and refined, balanced with a good structure. With age, the nose evolves to reveal vegetable or animal nuances, with scents of mushrooms, truffles, or woodland undergrowth, while the palate remains fat and mellow with fine, delicate, and supple tannins.
Food pairing suggestions: It pairs wonderfully with refined cheeses and various game dishes, including duck, goose, and other game birds.
Event suggestions: This 1984 vintage, now over 40 years old, is a rare and exceptional treat, ideally suited for a milestone anniversary, a significant birthday celebration, or a very special gathering of dedicated wine lovers. It is a wine to be savored and reflected upon, offering a profound glimpse into the evolution of a Grand Cru Burgundy over decades.
For a wine of this venerable age, expect a delicate and potentially fragile experience. The cork may be brittle, so use a Durand opener or a two-pronged ah-so cork puller with extreme care. Decanting is highly recommended to separate any sediment and allow the wine to gently open up, but be mindful of its age; a short decant (30-60 minutes) might be sufficient to avoid over-exposure to air. Serve slightly below room temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F), in large Burgundy glasses to fully appreciate its complex, evolved aromas. 【A rare vintage showcasing decades of Grand Cru Burgundy evolution】.
