FEATURES
The 2023 vintage in Burgundy is shaping up to be brilliant, and Michel Lafarge's Volnay Vendanges Selectionnees is no exception. Frédéric Lafarge, alongside his children Clothilde and Max, meticulously managed the harvest, which commenced on September 7th. Early de-budding meant no green harvest was necessary, and yields were healthy at 45-47 hl/ha. While the 2022s might be considered better for long-term cellaring, the 2023s offer immediate class and drinkability. This 'Vendanges Sélectionnées' bottling stands a step above the regular village Volnay, crafted from grapes sourced from four specific lieux-dits clustered near the Premier Crus, with vines boasting an age of 50 years or more. It is particularly noted for its enhanced concentration and depth. In the glass, expect a deeper colour with ripe aromas of mulberry and pomegranate. The wine presents a profile of black and red fruits, complemented by notes of earth, leather, and spice. It can show a more definite purple hue with lively raspberry notes. On the palate, it's pure fruit and berries, very aromatic, with a light frame and narrow structure, offering abundant freshness. Tasting notes also reveal ripe strawberry and tart red fruit, earthy nuances, clove, tobacco, a herbal-medicinal character, Eastern spice, and a hint of game. The palate is ripe but not jammy, supported by firm, slightly thick tannins and a spicy finish. Some describe pretty cherries, red berries, and moss on the nose, with tight but slightly dusty tannins, a medium to full body, and a tight, savory finish. It is expansive yet elegant and fresh, with a persistent finish supported by suave, velvety tannins. Food Pairing: This versatile red Burgundy pairs wonderfully with Beef, Veal, Poultry, and Game such as venison or deer. Fit for Event: This is a solid village wine that hints at Premier Cru complexity and structure, making it an excellent choice for a sophisticated dinner party or a special gathering. It also has good aging potential, though it merits a couple of years in bottle before opening to fully appreciate its nuances. 【品質超越一般村莊級,具一級園的複雜度和結構】
