FEATURES
Domaine Matrot, nestled in Meursault in the heart of Burgundy's Côte de Beaune, boasts a rich family heritage dating back to 1835. Today, sisters Adèle and Elsa Matrot lead the estate, which is recognized as a pioneer in ecological transition, having abandoned chemical products in the 1970s in favor of organic practices. The domaine is celebrated for producing wines that embody purity, energy, and a profound respect for their terroir. The Bourgogne Chardonnay cuvée is a meticulous blend of plots located within the Meursault commune and on the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune plateau, all farmed organically. Winemaking involves long, natural fermentations with indigenous yeasts and aging on lees for 11 to 12 months in oak barrels (one to five years old) to preserve fruit brightness and limit new wood influence.
The 2024 Bourgogne Chardonnay displays a pale yellow to bright lemon-yellow hue with great clarity. The nose is rich and precise, revealing aromas of white and yellow fruits such as peach, apricot, and ripe pear, further enriched by indulgent notes of nuts (hazelnut, toasted sesame) and pastry touches reminiscent of crème anglaise. The palate is broad and pleasingly rich, charming with its dense, deep texture. A fine acidic tension balances the whole, drawing the tasting out towards a long finish marked by buttery, brioche-like nuances. Previous vintages have been described as fruity and round, with stone and citrus fruits, nutty notes, apple, pear, lemon citrus, a creamy mouthfeel, and a medium finish with nutty spice and wet earthy character. Many consider it an "excellent example of how good white burgundy can be" and a "baby Meursault."
This white wine pairs beautifully with delicate fish, crustaceans, or shellfish like pan-seared scallops. It also makes an excellent match for poultry and white meats in a creamy sauce, gratins of Mediterranean vegetables, and pressed cheeses such as a young Comté or Beaufort. It can also be enjoyed as an aperitif or with charcuterie, chicken, and grilled fish.
This versatile Chardonnay is perfect for aperitifs, casual gatherings with friends, or elegant dinners featuring seafood or poultry.
