FEATURES
The 2012 vintage for Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier's Nuits-Saint-Georges Clos de la Maréchale 1er Cru was exceptionally challenging, marked by extremely low yields due to poor flowering and hail damage, resulting in only about a third of a normal crop. Despite these adversities, the wine turned out splendidly, showcasing remarkable concentration. Since reacquiring this monopole in 2004, Frédéric Mugnier has focused on crafting wines that emphasize elegance, perfume, and subtlety, a departure from the traditionally more muscular Nuits-Saint-Georges style.
This wine displays a vibrant purple color, brimming with energy and an atypical weight of fruit. Initially reserved, it gradually unveils complex and alluring aromas of dark cherry, spices, gingerbread, and earthy undertones. On the palate, it is deep, full-bodied, and remarkably pure, with a lovely expression of soil, a sappy core, impressive complexity, and a firm yet smooth tannic grip on a perfectly balanced finish. Reviewers note it as classic Mugnier, elegant and refined for Nuits-Saint-Georges, with good spice and depth, leaning towards both darker and red berry fruits.
For a 2012 vintage, careful handling is recommended. Older corks can be fragile, so consider using a specialized opener. Decanting for at least an hour, or even more, will allow the wine to fully open up, shedding any initial funkiness and revealing its intricate aromatic profile and freshness.
🍴 This concentrated and elegant Nuits-Saint-Georges is a superb match for roast duck, rich beef bourguignon, various game dishes, earthy mushroom preparations, charcuterie, and a selection of aged cheeses.
🥂 The 2012 Clos de la Maréchale is currently showing beautifully at around 13 years of age, yet it still possesses the structure to evolve further. It is an excellent choice for a sophisticated dinner, a special celebration, or a focused tasting of fine Burgundy, where its concentration and aging potential can be truly appreciated. 【Exceptional concentration despite brutally short yields.】
