FEATURES
The 2002 vintage in Burgundy was marked by climatic serendipity, with warmth and rain courting the vineyards in harmonious sequence, yielding fruit of remarkable quality. Domaine Armand Rousseau's 2002 Mazy-Chambertin Grand Cru radiates with a distinctive luster, distinguishing itself from its chronological neighbors. 【This masculine, muscular 2002 Mazy-Chambertin offers aromas of dark fruits, spices, and cherries, with a firm, structured character and a tannic backbone revealing a hint of rusticity.】 It presents gamey red and black fruit aromas, along with espresso and mineral notes. Sweet and sappy in the mouth, with lovely acids framing the fruit, it offers a very long and juicy finish with a firm tannic spine. Some bottles have shown overtly earthy and sauvage characters, leading to rich, punchy, intense, and tautly muscular flavors with fine minerality. Serving Advice for an Aged Wine (2002 Vintage): For a wine of this age, expect some sediment, so decanting is highly recommended to separate it and allow the wine to breathe, revealing its full aromatic complexity. Handle the bottle gently to avoid disturbing the sediment. Old corks can be fragile; use a Durand opener or a two-pronged cork puller for best results. Serve at a cool cellar temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F). Food Pairing: This powerful Grand Cru pairs exceptionally well with robust dishes such as roasted lamb, beef Wellington, or rich stews. Its earthy and dark fruit profile also makes it a superb match for truffle dishes or aged hard cheeses. Event Suggestions: Ideal for a significant celebration, a serious wine tasting with fellow connoisseurs, or as a centerpiece for a gourmet meal where the wine is the star.
