FEATURES
The 2010 Hundred Acre 'Fortunate Son' Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a winery renowned for its meticulous approach, including berry-by-berry harvesting and an 'obsessive/compulsive barrel regime.' Owner Jayson Woodbridge is dedicated to achieving 'near critical perfection' and crafting some of the finest wines known to man. His 100% Cabernet Sauvignon wines have deservedly achieved cult status, making them highly sought after. The 2010 vintage in California was exceptionally good, despite a cool and damp spring that delayed budburst and flowering, followed by one of the coolest growing seasons on record. 【Hundred Acre wines are meticulously handcrafted, hand pruned, scrutinized, and aligned for critical perfection.】
This wine resonates with gorgeous super-ripe plums, espresso, mocha, and grilled herbs. It is a big, voluptuous wine, impressive for its overall balance and a creamy, textured finish, with exotic spices and a hint of orange rind adding lift and freshness. Expect a deep opaque cranberry-purple colour, with a prominent nose of blackberry, cocoa, and oak, complemented by notes of menthol. It offers a remarkable smoothness and integration, characteristic of slightly older vintages, with a great balance of acidity and tannins. The fruit is present but muted, with secondary notes of leather, cassis, tobacco, and a pleasant spiciness. The tannins are very smooth yet present, creating a balanced wine with a noticeably long finish. It boasts a pronounced bouquet and flavour of cassis, blackberries, plum, cola, and vanilla oak, showcasing wonderful nuance, depth, and balance.
Food pairing suggestions include beef and venison. It is also an excellent match for hearty dishes such as meatloaf, stew, and boeuf bourguignon. For a special occasion, it pairs wonderfully with turkey, brazil nut stuffing, creamy mashed potatoes, rich turkey gravy, and corn pudding.
This wine is ideal for a grand dinner, a celebratory meal featuring rich red meats, or a special gathering where a powerful and complex Cabernet Sauvignon is desired. Given its age, it is drinking beautifully now but also possesses the structure to cellar for a while longer.
