FEATURES
The 2003 Christophe Roumier Mazoyeres Chambertin Grand Cru hails from one of 布根地's most celebrated terroirs and winemakers, with Christophe Roumier regarded as one of the world's grandest vignerons. Domaine Roumier is a jewel in 布根地's crown, renowned for its complex terroir. This Grand Cru, from Gevrey-Chambertin, was crafted in the famously warm 2003 vintage, combining generous ripeness with the precision and tension sought in great Pinot Noir. Mazoyères-Chambertin is legally permitted to be sold under the more famous name of Charmes-Chambertin, a practice widely adopted by growers. Roumier has been farming this particular parcel since 1985 through a sharecropping agreement.
In terms of tasting, the wine displays a deep garnet core with brick reflections, indicating its evolution, and a dense, limpid robe. The nose offers an intense and layered bouquet of ripe black cherry, plum, and wild strawberry, mingling with notes of undergrowth, truffle, dried rose, and a hint of leather. With aeration, subtle sweet spices, tobacco leaf, and cedar emerge. The palate begins with an ample and silky attack, supported by finely woven tannins. The mid-palate is complex, combining dark fruits, licorice, and earthy nuances with hints of game and cocoa. Despite the warm vintage, a present acidity provides freshness and lift, leading to a long, savory, and persistent finish with notes of spice and forest floor. Robert Parker awarded it 92 points, describing it as broad, ample, seductive, medium-bodied, awash in fresh red cherries, and revealing copious quantities of sweet tannin.
Food pairing suggestions include chicken tenderloins (aiguillettes de poulet), guinea fowl supreme skewers (brochettes de suprême de pintade), and veal sweetbread casserole (cassolette de ris de veau). It also generally pairs well with duck, goose, and other game birds.
This wine is an exceptional choice for a celebratory dinner, a serious wine tasting among connoisseurs, or any special occasion demanding a profound and mature 布根地 Grand Cru. Its complexity and long finish make it ideal for contemplative enjoyment.
