FEATURES
The 1992 Le Petit Cheval is the esteemed second wine from Chateau Cheval Blanc, a Premier Grand Cru Classé A estate in Saint-Émilion. The vintage itself was characterized by mixed weather, with June rains followed by a beautiful summer, ultimately yielding a wine described as correct, subtle, and very pleasant. While specific notes for Le Petit Cheval 1992 are scarce, the Grand Vin from the same year offered an elegant profile with notes of clove, leather, dried rose petals, smoke, forest, and pepper. This wine, now over three decades old, embodies the classic old-world style, showcasing the graceful evolution of Bordeaux reds. Expect tertiary aromas and a softened palate, a testament to its age. 【Second wine of a Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé A】. Serving Advice for an Aged Wine: Given its age, this 1992 vintage should be handled with care. The cork may be fragile, so use a two-pronged cork puller or an Ah-So opener. Decanting is highly recommended to separate any sediment that has formed over the years and to allow the wine to breathe, revealing its complex bouquet. However, be mindful not to over-decant, as very old wines can fade quickly. A brief decant of 30-60 minutes should suffice. Serve slightly below room temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F). Food Pairing: This mature Bordeaux would beautifully complement classic French cuisine such as roasted lamb with herbs, truffle-infused dishes, or a delicate mushroom risotto. For a more Eastern touch, consider a slow-cooked Cantonese beef brisket or a refined Peking duck. Event Suggestions: Ideal for a sophisticated anniversary dinner, a quiet evening of reflection, or a gathering of serious wine connoisseurs appreciating the nuances of aged Bordeaux.
BACKGROUND
Chateau Cheval Blanc is a property in the Saint-Emilion region of Bordeaux, classified with the top ranking of Premier Grand Cru Classe A.The vineyard is located in the northwest of the region, bordering Pomerol – La Conseillante is a neighbor – and consists of 39 hectares (96 acres) divided into 45 plots. There is an unusually high amount of Cabernet Franc planted, about 49 percent, with 47 percent Merlot and 4 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. The unusual planting proportions reflect the terroir; most vineyards in the region are either clay or gravel-based over impermeable sedimentary rock, but Cheval Blanc is unique in having a patchwork of soils with the two types in roughly equal proportions. The clay soils provide base wines with velvety tannins, while those from gravel soils are more aromatic and elegant.
