FEATURES
🏰 The 1994 vintage in Bordeaux saw a cool spring followed by a hot summer with thunderstorms, and rain during the Cabernet harvest caused issues for many Left Bank estates. However, La Mission Haut-Brion's superb drainage and ability to produce fascinating aromatics even in difficult vintages triumphed. It's considered the 【 dark horse of the decade 】 and may well surpass modest expectations. This wine has a deep garnet core with a dark brick rim. The nose offers moderate intensity with blackberry, wild hedgerow, cigar box, smoky, tobacco, leathery, roasted herb, and cassis scents. It's a very attractive 1994 with good fruit concentration, touches of sour cherry, bitter lemon, and cooked meats. On the palate, it is voluptuous, round, medium to full-bodied, and loaded with fruit, glycerin, complexity, and charm. It shows some angularity and rustic tannins, but they are not out of balance. It has a fresh opening of cassis, blackberry, leather, and gravel, with smokey embers and brick emerging as it grows. The finish offers nice red cherry and an imprint of warm stones.
🍴 Classic pairings include roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, or mature hard cheeses. For Eastern cuisine, consider Cantonese braised beef brisket or a rich, slow-cooked duck dish.
🥂 This mature Bordeaux is perfect for a classic wine dinner, a significant anniversary, or a gathering of Bordeaux enthusiasts. Its evolved character makes it a contemplative choice. Given its age, the cork may be delicate; use a proper corkscrew. Decanting is recommended to allow the wine to open up and to separate any sediment. Decant gently an hour or two before serving. Serve at 17-18°C (62-64°F).
