FEATURES
The 2020 vintage for Beau Paysage A Hum Pinot Gris was a challenging one, largely due to the global Covid pandemic impacting various aspects from harvesting to sales. Beau Paysage, meaning "beautiful landscape," is a small, highly respected estate in Yamanashi-ken, Japan, led by the meticulous Eishi Okamoto. Production is extremely limited, with less than 10,000 bottles crafted annually, making these wines rare and highly sought after, often pre-allocated to exclusive natural wine bars and restaurants across Japan. Okamoto-san, a former archaeologist, is renowned for his natural winemaking philosophy and the dedication with which he hand-produces every single bottle.
Tasting notes, compiled from user reviews, highlight a profile rich in citrus notes like orange and orange peel, alongside tree fruit notes such as apple and apricot. Yeasty characteristics, cream, and sourdough are also present, complemented by earthy hints of honey and ginger. Further complexities include jasmine green tea, white flowers, gooseberry, and subtle oak, almond, and hazelnut notes from aging, with occasional mentions of dried apricot and sour cherry. The wine is characterized by a "White - Green and Flinty" style.
🍴 This unique Pinot Gris pairs wonderfully with salads and green vegetables, offering a refreshing complement to lighter fare.
