The 2014 Château Ausone is a distinguished blend of 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Merlot, meticulously aged for 20 months in barrels, with 85% new oak. The unique growing season of 2014 imparted an "almost sorbet-like freshness" to this Saint-Émilion Grand Cru. Hailed as "one of the stars of the vintage" and a "great success," this wine is crafted from organically grown grapes, reflecting a commitment to quality and terroir.
On the nose, the 2014 Ausone offers fabulous aromas of currants, rose petals, dried strawberries, and hints of lemon rind, complemented by wet earth and chalk. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins, showcasing mineral-rich red berry fruit, oregano, orange blossom, and blackcurrant winegums. It is harmonious, poised, and culminates in a precise and tensile finish. James Suckling described its texture as "full and dense and so compacted and squeezed," noting its phenomenal energy. While some notes mention menthol, a chunky density, and dry tannins, these are often characteristics that integrate beautifully with age. This wine requires patience, needing five to six years to truly open up and reveal its full potential.
🍴 Food Pairing: This exquisite Bordeaux pairs wonderfully with classic French cuisine, particularly roasted red meats, lamb dishes, and a selection of mature, hard cheeses.
🥂 Event Suggestions: The 2014 Château Ausone is an ideal choice for discerning collectors, significant milestone celebrations, or a sophisticated dinner where a wine of profound elegance and aging capability is appreciated. 【 Awarded a perfect 100 points by James Suckling. 】
