FEATURES
Pierre-Jean Villa is a compelling modern producer in the Northern Rhône, known for organic farming and precise, terroir-driven wines since 2009. The "Préface" is his entry-level Saint-Joseph, made from pure Syrah from the appellation's granite slopes. The 2018 vintage in Saint-Joseph was characterized by richly textured, ripe, and fleshy wines, with northern Rhône Syrahs being big and often voluptuous with abundant black, ripe, rich fruit. It was a dry and early vintage, with a very rainy spring providing water reserves for a hot and dry summer, leading to remarkable intensity and supple tannins in the reds.
This 100% Syrah wine reveals intense aromas of ripe red fruits, spices, and a slight touch of vanilla, due to careful maturation in barrique. On the palate, it is full-bodied with a well-balanced tannic structure and a long, pleasantly spicy finish. Other notes include black fruit (blackberry, black cherry), pepper, licorice, dried herbs, oak, tobacco, vanilla, leather, earthy, and smoke. The wines of 2018 are of remarkable intensity, with supple tannins. 【Exceptional expression of Syrah in Saint-Joseph, balancing finesse and character】
