FEATURES
Noel Verset's Cornas is considered an iconic Northern Rhône Syrah, with his domain now defunct, making remaining bottles highly sought-after rarities. Verset, who began winemaking at 12 in 1931, adhered to traditional methods, never de-stemming and using old demi-muids for aging, resulting in wines known for their red fruit, aromatic complexity, and minerality rather than typical brawn. The 1986 vintage, part of his later work, showcases his unique approach. Tasting notes often reveal meaty, savory, funky, darkly fruited, and olive-y characteristics, vibrant with minerality and acidity. Earthy, oaky (coffee, chocolate, tobacco), and spicy (pepper, licorice) notes are also prominent, alongside red and black fruit nuances.
Food pairing suggestions include robust dishes like beef, lamb, poultry, and game (deer, venison). Interestingly, older vintages have been enjoyed with white truffle risotto.
This rare and iconic wine is perfectly suited for a special occasion, a serious wine tasting among connoisseurs, or a celebratory dinner where a truly unique and aged Northern Rhône Syrah would be appreciated. 【 Iconic and rare Northern Rhône Syrah from a legendary traditional winemaker 】
As a 1986 vintage, this wine is approaching 40 years old. Expect a more evolved, subtle style compared to younger Cornas. The cork and capsule may be fragile, so consider using a Durand opener or similar tool. Decant carefully to separate any sediment, but be mindful of its age; a short decant (30-60 minutes) might be sufficient to allow it to open up without losing its delicate aromatics. Serve slightly below room temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F).
