FEATURES
The 2017 vintage in the Northern Rhône was a year of contrasts and challenges, marked by a dry winter, a wet spring with hail and frost, and extreme summer drought, resulting in a 20% smaller crop in Côte Rôtie. Despite these conditions, the 2017 Guigal Côte Rôtie La Turque is celebrated as one of the legendary vintages for this cuvée, hailed as "the star of the show in 2017 and one of the wines of the vintage." Critics have lauded its exceptional quality, with Jeb Dunnuck awarding it a perfect 100 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate giving it 97+ points, and Decanter rating it 97 points. La Turque, a single-vineyard Cru Côte-Rôtie, was acquired by Guigal in 1980 and replanted in the early 1980s. It uniquely blends the virility of Côte Brune with the subtlety and femininity of Côte Blonde.
This wine presents a deep ruby red with dark tints. The nose is intensely aromatic, powerful, and elegant, offering notes of small red fruit, blackberry, and morello cherry. On the palate, it delivers a supple attack with a balanced structure, concentration, and elegant tannins. It is full-bodied, creamy, and rich, revealing hints of crushed stone, struck flint, smoky bacon-fat, and ripe, mouthwatering blackberries. Further layers include smoked meats, dark chocolate, graphite, expansive black raspberry, cherry, boysenberry, exotic spice, floral oil, and incense. The finish is long and chewy, with resonating blue fruit and floral notes, supported by youthfully gripping tannins.
Food pairing suggestions include grilled tuna, grilled swordfish, Peking duck, lamb loin, caribou, venison, hamburgers, and nachos. Its rich and berried profile, with ripe black fruits and peppery spice, makes it an excellent match for grilled, roasted, or stewed meats.
This wine is ideal for serious collectors and special occasions, offering pleasure now but truly benefiting from 5-7 years of bottle age. It boasts an impressive aging potential of 30 to 40 years. 【One of the legendary vintages for this cuvée, rated 100 points by Jeb Dunnuck】
