Olivier Leflaive, Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru, 2020
The 2020 vintage for Olivier Leflaive Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is considered excellent despite unusual conditions, marked by historic precocity from budburst to harvest, which occurred entirely in August due to high temperatures and lack of precipitation. These particular conditions resulted in wonderfully balanced wines. This 100% Chardonnay wine, from vines over forty years old, is a Grand Cru from the Côte de Beaune and is ranked among the most accomplished whites in Olivier Leflaive's collection. 【 A wine of great finesse and class 】. It presents a complex bouquet of mineral fragrances, pear, and spices. On the palate, it offers a fresh and saline attack, structured with a long finish, showcasing a great class of wine to savor within a few years. Jasper Morris of Inside Burgundy noted its fine mineral aspects, describing it as one of the stricter rather than fleshier examples, with lovely light limey notes.
Food pairing suggestions include seafood such as lobster, crayfish, crab, or monkfish, as well as poultry or veal cooked in sauce. It also pairs well with chicken and turkey.
This wine is ideal for a sophisticated dinner party, a celebratory meal, or as a special gift for a white Burgundy enthusiast. It's a wine to be enjoyed between 2025-2030.
