FEATURES
The 2010 Jean Louis Chave Hermitage Rouge is a monumental wine from a 500-year-old estate, widely regarded as "the most sought after Rhone bottling among private collectors". The 2010 vintage itself was phenomenal for the Rhône Valley, and Jean-Louis Chave considers this Hermitage to be "pure perfection," reminiscent of their legendary 1990 vintage. With an annual production of just over 3,000 cases, this wine is a true rarity.
This Hermitage presents an opaque purple color. The nose offers an extraordinary bouquet of sweet blackberry fruit intermixed with crème de cassis, lead pencil shavings, acacia flowers, bouquet garni, meat, and crushed rocks. It is full-bodied and stunningly rich with laser-like precision, powerful, massive yet exceptionally well-balanced. Dark and massively built, the palate reveals a core bristling with warm plum sauce, black currant, blackberry pâte de fruit, and bitter cherry flavors. A loamy edge develops through the finish, studded with charcoal, licorice root, and roasted apple wood notes, all underpinned by a broad, dense graphite spine. Further complexity comes from a mineral and taut profile, with a brooding bouquet of pepper, spices, dark berries, thyme, bay leaf, and hints of smoke, leading to a concentrated, layered palate with powdery, structured tannins and a long, granite finish.
🍴 Food pairing suggestions: An ideal match for lamb dishes.
🥂 Event suggestions: This wine is built for decades of enjoyment and should ideally be cellared for at least a decade before drinking, with a potential drinking window extending 30-40 years. It is perfect for a serious collector's dinner, a significant anniversary, or a grand tasting event showcasing iconic Rhône wines. 【"Pure perfection" and "most sought after Rhone bottling among private collectors"】
