FEATURES
The 2022 vintage in Burgundy is proving to be excellent, with an easier growing season and less disease pressure, leading to a harvest that began in late August. Thibaud Clerget, the 28th generation of his family, revived Domaine Yvon Clerget in 2015. For his 2022 Clos de Vougeot, he employs around 50% whole bunches and approximately half new oak, crafting a wine that reflects the warm, ripe year with generosity without sacrificing its Grand Cru seriousness. Clerget aims for balance and freshness in his 2022 reds.
This wine presents a deep bouquet of black cherry, dried herbs, mint, and liquorice, with a savoury, peppery edge from the stems. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with a finely structured profile, polished tannins, and a firm grip on the finish. Flavours of black fruit, loam, white pepper, and bay leaf linger long and unhurried. Some critics note an intensely floral, rose petal-suffused nose, with ripe red currant, black cherry, kirsch, and warm earth, leading to a dusty, compact, serious, and youthfully austere finale. This is a wine built for the cellar, requiring five to ten years in bottle to truly come into its own.
🍴 Food pairing suggestions: This Grand Cru Pinot Noir is a superb match for roast duck with a cherry sauce, allowing the fruit notes to complement the wine's darker register. It also pairs beautifully with other game birds like goose.
🥂 Event suggestions: Given its serious structure and cellar-worthy nature, this wine is ideal for a proper, celebratory occasion or a sophisticated dinner where it can be given the attention it deserves. 【Excellent 2022 Burgundy vintage, 28th generation family domaine, built for the cellar】.
