FEATURES
The 2011 Promontory is now entering its initial plateau of maturity, showcasing a striking dark, dense, and layered character. Despite 2011 being a cool and challenging harvest for much of Napa Valley, Promontory, situated on the hillsides, benefited from the warmth of the autumn sun and constant breezes, allowing for a late harvest that imparted an "exotic flair." This vintage is celebrated as a "real gem," demonstrating what was achievable in an otherwise "misunderstood vintage."
Expect a deep red, brooding appearance. The aromatics are notably extroverted, offering notes of coffee, black truffle, wet stones, and the scent of warm earth after rain. On the palate, it's classically juicy upon entry with dancing acidity, displaying great density, clarity, and intention. Further tasting reveals dark cherry, gravel, scorched earth, tobacco, spice, and licorice, alongside pencil shavings, raspberry jam, wild flowers, mint, and anise. Critics have also noted a dense purple color, with sweet blackcurrants, blackberries, licorice, espresso bean, and camphor, along with pure, lifted blackcurrant fruit and velvety smooth tannins.
🍴 This full-bodied red pairs wonderfully with rich dishes like red sauce pasta.
🥂 The 2011 Promontory is a wine for patient enjoyment, requiring a few more years of cellaring (from 2014) and promising to drink well for two decades or more. It's ideal for a special occasion or a significant dinner where its evolving complexity can be fully appreciated. 【A real gem from a misunderstood vintage, showcasing vivid and exceptionally beautiful character.】
