FEATURES
The 2014 Chateau Rayas Fonsalette is an offering from the legendary Chateau Rayas, widely regarded as one of the top producers in the Southern Rhône Valley. Emmanuel Reynaud continues the esteemed legacy, crafting wines from the Fonsalette estate, located just outside Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The red wines are made from 30 acres of old-vine Grenache, Cinsault, and Syrah, fermented in concrete and aged in old barrels, often released nearly a decade after fermentation. The 2014 Rhône vintage was challenging due to a cool, wet summer, but top producers like Rayas still managed to create good wines, with the Fonsalette showing a lighter color and more finesse, drinking well.
This wine is a blend of 50% Grenache, 35% Cinsault, and 15% Syrah. It is aromatically generous, revealing cinnamon-inflected baking spices, earth, strawberry leaf, and orange peel. The nose is lifted and heady with roses, wild strawberries, and a subtle herbal touch, leading to a surprisingly fresh palate with concentration and depth. Expect a very light ruby red color, with notes of cherries, fresh herbs, spiciness, and floral hints. It offers a silky palate of strawberry and sweet spices, a sense of maturity, a hint of citrus, lovely tension, and an ethereal, mineral finish. 【From the legendary Chateau Rayas, Fonsalette offers a nearly parallel quality to Rayas wines, showcasing ancient vines and a unique, ethereal Grenache-dominant expression.】
Recommended food pairings include gamey meats, braised dishes, and steak. It also pairs beautifully with beef, lamb, and venison.
This highly sought-after wine is perfect for a special celebration, a connoisseur's tasting, or a luxurious dinner where its elegance and complexity can truly shine alongside refined dishes.
