FEATURES
The 2017 vintage in the Southern Rhône Valley was characterized by hot and very dry conditions, resulting in powerful, structured red wines. It was a "bonsai vintage" with small bunches and tiny grapes, leading to thick skins, plentiful tannins, and concentrated flavors. While some wines might show overripe notes or leathery tannins, the best examples offer a balance between summer heat and spring freshness, making them structured and ageworthy.
Château des Tours is part of the esteemed Reynaud family estates, which also includes the legendary Château Rayas. Rooted in Sarrians, the estate upholds traditional winemaking methods, utilizing clay-limestone soils and rounded pebbles to produce wines that are both generous and precise. Emmanuel Reynaud took over winemaking at Château des Tours in 1998.
This Vacqueyras Rouge 2017 presents a deep garnet robe with ruby reflections, a silky texture, and promising density. The nose reveals aromas of wild blackberry and black cherry, mingling with notes of thyme and garrigue, lifted by a saline touch and a hint of liquorice. On the palate, it offers a velvety attack, supported by lively acidity and chalky minerality, leading to a long, elegant finish with beautiful tension. It's often considered a "value play" within the Reynaud stable, offering singular and expressive wines that age well.
